P.E.I, Sites and Bites

Charlottetown Highlights

  • Historic Downtown: Explore the charming streets, Victorian architecture, and vibrant harbor.
  • Confederation Centre of the Arts: Catch a live performance or explore the art gallery.
  • Peake's Quay: Enjoy the waterfront shops, restaurants, and boat tours.
  • Victoria Park: A beautiful urban park with walking trails, a boardwalk, and scenic views of the harbor.
  • Province House: The birthplace of Confederation, offering historical insights.

Green Gables - is now a big tourist site with a pavilion and gift shop. The main house and grounds are lovely, especially if you have read the books or seen the shows. If you are in Cavendish, you might as well drop by, if in the area.

Lucy Maud Montgomery is buried at the small cemetery at the top of the hill; 4 corners. If you are out on the north shore, and you have time, drive by the scenic French River fishing Village. (You would then be driving by Lucy Maud Montgomery’s birth home in New London). It is stunning with bright island colored fishing shacks, rolling green hills and ocean. North Rustico is very scenic and has a few good restaurants - another place I like to visit.

If you are flying into the island and you have time with a rental car, Victoria-By-the-Sea is a small village of artisans and restaurants. The Lobster Barn and Casa Mia - both on the pier are great restaurants. The homemade chocolate shop is a decadent treat… if you have made it this far, then definitely drive the extra 15 minutes for a view of the Confederation Bridge. It is truly awesome to see it span the ocean from the site lines of farm fields and sand bars. My favorite south shore beach and close to where I grew up is Canoe Cove. It is between Charlottetown and Victoria-by-the-Sea. It’s off Route 19.

Famous Chef and best-selling author, Michael Smith, resides in Bay Fortune. It is a total experience if you are able to get a reservation at his ‘Fire Works’ restaurant.

Tracadie Bay, FiN Folk Food and the Blackbush Resort - stunning views and sunsets and good food.
